A taste of Britain is coming to Orillia this month.
The Leacock Museum is introducing Full English. Every Sunday, starting Jan. 13, Trix's Bistro (Swanmore Hall) on the museum grounds will serve a full British breakfast between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
The museum hosted a royal wedding brunch last year, which proved to be popular enough to inspire Full English.
“There seems to be great interest in Britain in this town, so we thought it would be a good idea,” said Darcy Hoover, marketing manager with the City of Orillia.
Not only will visitors enjoy a British breakfast prepared by chef Marie Brennan, of Gourmade Thyme Catering; they’ll also be treated to a continuous stream of Coronation Street. The popular British soap opera has been on the air for almost 60 years and has a dedicated international following. Hoover counts himself among the fans.
“I remember it when I was visiting my grandparents. They were happy they could get current British programming over here,” he said.
It’s the only soap Hoover watches.
“I’m hooked on it because of the characters,” he said. “They range from the believable to the outrageous.”
Visitors don’t have to be fans of the show to enjoy Full English, but there's no promising they, too, won't become hooked by the time they leave.
“It’s just an experience for people. It’s a nice thing to do for the community,” Hoover said.
Reservations are recommended. They can be made by calling the museum at 705-329-1908. The cost is $16.95 per person.
