CITY OF ORILLIA

The City of Orillia has 80 lifeguarding positions available at the new Orillia Recreation Centre scheduled to open in the spring of 2019.
The Parks, Recreation and Culture Department is calling on people of all ages, from youth to seniors, to register for upcoming discounted training courses to become certified lifeguards and swim instructors.
“Being a lifeguard is such a rewarding career offering flexible hours and a dynamic work environment.
To start, all you need is a love for the water and the ability to swim; everything else we will teach you during the training,” said Christine Mitchell, City of Orillia Aquatics and Fitness Supervisor.
This fall, the City is running a Daytime Lifeguard/Swim Instructor Fast Track program in partnership with the Orillia YMCA. The program will run Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. starting on Oct. 2, 2018. This course is ideal for stay-at-home parents, retirees and anyone looking for a career change.
Since the City began the lifeguard recruitment program, all aquatics leadership courses have been offered at a discount to anyone interested in becoming certified. Market value of these courses is approximately $1,200 (depending on what certifications are needed) and registrants only have to pay certification and manual fees. The Fast Track program is a great way to obtain all of your certifications in a short amount of time.
Lifeguarding at the Orillia Recreation Centre offers full-time or part-time hours, which is great if you are in school, a stay-at-home parent, retired or are looking to supplement your income.
