A local grocery store's sweet gesture for its staff brought smiles to the faces of those at The Lighthouse.
Zehrs purchased 160 dozen Smile cookies from local Tim Hortons eateries and presented a dozen of the tasty treats to each of its staff members.
"Our Zehrs team loves to give back to our community, however during these challenging times it’s been tough to get out in the community to give back," reads a Facebook post from the Orillia store.
"So this week, for thank you week, we decided to order 160 dozen Smile cookies from our local Tim Hortons for each of our colleagues knowing that 100% of the proceeds go right back into our community to support the Lighthouse project," explained the post.
"Our colleagues were surprised today when we showed up with the Smile cookies!"
In addition to helping out the Lighthouse and its Building Hope campaign, the cookies served as a thank you to the employees and how hard they've worked during the pandemic.
Tim Hortons gives 100% of all Smile cookie sales to a designated charity. At Orillia's Tim Hortons restaurants, that designated charity is The Lighthouse which means the Zehrs purchase, alone, will result in a $1,920 contribution to the local homeless shelter.
Last year, the Smile campaign raised $47,000 for The Lighthouse.
You still have a chance to purchase a $1 Smile cookie. The campaign continues today, before wrapping up Sunday.
