Local child-care workers and their contributions recognized

County of Simcoe Warden George Cornell proclaims Thursday, Oct. 24, 2019 to be Child Care Worker and Early Childhood Educator Appreciation Day in recognition of the education, dedication and commitment of child care workers to children, their families and quality of life of the community.

“High-quality child care that responds to the needs of our residents is essential for the social and economic prosperity of Simcoe County,” said Warden George Cornell. “I would like to thank all our Child Care Workers and Early Childhood Educators who care for and nurture our children and provide such a valuable service to our families.”

The County of Simcoe is the Child Care Service System Manager for Simcoe County and the cities of Barrie and Orillia. There are 1,600 child care staff working in 195 licensed child care sites, with a total system capacity of more than 16,000 licensed spaces. In addition, there are 36 EarlyOn Child and Family Centres serving more than 7,500 children and families annually.

In recognition of Child Care Worker and Early Childhood Educator Appreciation Day, education projects of licensed Child Care and Early Years programs in Simcoe County are on display in the Atrium of the County Administration Centre in Midhurst, featuring a graphic representations of discussions and ideas from the 2019 We Are Stronger Together Early Years Conference.
