Members of the Orillia chapter and the Barrie chapter of the Ganaraska Hiking Club got together earlier this week for a joint hike.
The group went to the Copeland Forest despite threatening skies. The beautiful forest canopy formed an umbrella over the hikers who only felt the drops from the canopy when the wind blew.
The temperature was cool and fall-like and encouraged the hikers' 12-kilometre romp up and down hills.
The hikers noted mushrooms are definitely blooming with this recent wet spell, and the most spectacular was the brilliant orange Chicken of the Woods.
The group also came upon a new walkway built around the stone on the path.
The local hikers were on the Ganaraska Trail for a short time, but mostly used forest roads and bike trails.
The hiking season is getting into full swing. For more information, check out www.ganaraska-hiking-rail.org.
