Local hikers scale 'Jarratt Mountain' during morning trek

Ganaraska Hiking Trail Association's Orillia club led 6.5-km journey

Members of the Ganaraska Hiking Trail Association’s Orillia club did some ‘mountain climbing,’ Oro-Medonte style, on Tuesday.

They went to ‘Jarratt Mountain’ for a 6.5-kilometre hike, starting at the Bass Lake Sideroad East access to the Schumacher Tract of the Simcoe County Forest and the Couchiching Conservancy East Coulson Swamp. They trekked along mountain bike trails and forest roads, and climbed the ‘mountain.’

One of the photos above shows the hikers in front of a large, old tree that has been breaking apart for decades. Another picture shows the view from the top, with morning fog.

Hikers are wearing bright colours since hunting season is coming.

More information on the club can be found at ganaraska-hiking-trail.org.
