NEWS RELEASE
SIMCOE NORTH PROVINCIAL LIBERAL ASSOCIATION
**************************
A year ago the Simcoe North Provincial Liberal Association (SNPLA) started an open discussion with the residents of Simcoe North. We asked for your concerns and hopes for the future.
We used online surveys, local news, e-mail, and video conferencing to ensure we heard, not only from Liberals but everyone who wanted to engage. You told us that housing is in short supply, that we all want healthy green spaces, that long term care needs big fixes and that farming has great potential for our area. The next provincial election is our opportunity to set Ontario’s course for a successful and sustainable future.
The SNPLA wants to take your concerns and recommendations and turn them into the working policies of our next government.
“Seeking input from residents regardless of their political affiliation has really paid off. It gave us the chance to talk about the concerns we all share for our future in Simcoe North and across the province - not about politics,“ says Martin Ward, SNPLA Director.
We invite you to keep the conversation going by letting us know your ideas for resolving three of the top issues.
- Long-term care: COVID-19 has surfaced significant issues affecting Ontario’s long-term care facilities – resident isolation; insufficient levels of medical staff; inadequate personal protective equipment. The problems are deeply rooted. There are many underlying factors - recruiting and training; wages; public vs private ownership; registered staffing levels. What should be done to improve Long Term Care in Simcoe North?
- Agriculture: Farmers are the front line in providing food security for Ontarians. But too often they lack the technology, the regulations and the financial rewards to meet today’s agricultural challenges. What do we need to do to make farming a successful and significant part of Simcoe North’s economy?
- Housing: Middle income Ontarians are finding it increasingly difficult to afford decent housing. The housing market is pricing home ownership beyond the average family’s means. Too often affordable housing is simply unavailable. How should we change our approach to building and managing our housing industry to ensure we all have a safe place to live?
