NEWS RELEASE
GEORGIAN SHORES SENIORS CLUB

Georgian Shores Seniors Club revived the Order of Good Cheer, which had been initiated by Samuel de Champlain in 1606.
Two of the board members appeared in period costumes as the chief organizer and the priest who gave the blessing.
The event started with an icebreaker by having each table answer a multiple choice question about Champlain’s Order of Good Cheer, which included regular feasts to raise the spirits of the French settlers during their horrendous winters. The order was unique because it included all levels of society and their Native allies.
Everyone at Georgian Shores Seniors Club enjoyed a sumptuous feast and then the board presented certificates of membership in the Order of Good Cheer to 70 club members.
We look forward to more winter celebrations like this to keep our spirits up while waiting for spring.
