Attention parents and teens with free teen transit passes from the City’s 2024 pilot program – it’s time to renew your free pass.
All pilot program teen transit passes will expire on Feb. 28. Council has made the free pass a permanent program as part of the 2025 Budget process and as a result, teens can renew their pass for the long-term. The new expiration date will be based on the cardholder’s ID and set to the day before the cardholder’s twentieth birthday.
“This program not only empowers youth by providing greater access to transit, but also supports our community’s commitment to sustainability,” said Mayor Don McIsaac. “We encourage all teens to enjoy free, safe, and reliable transit in Orillia.”
Renewing the teen transit pass is simple and can be done in person at the Orillia City Centre (50 Andrew St. S.) or the Orillia Public Library (36 Mississaga St. W.). Online renewals are not available.
Key Renewal Details:
- ID is required for renewal. This can include a birth certificate, passport, driver’s licence, Ontario photo ID card, or health card.
- The renewed pass will be added to the existing cOnnect Pass transit card.
- All cOnnect Passes must be registered online at orillia.usetransit.com. Cards not registered to an account cannot be renewed.
In 2024, Orillia teens took over 90,000 rides on Orillia Transit using a free teen pass as part of a pilot program that started in March 2024. Teen passes are available to Orillia teens aged 13 to 19.
Teens who do not have a teen pass and would like to obtain one, can request one in person with valid ID. For more information on how to register or renew your cOnnect Pass, visit orillia.ca/transit.
