An Etobicoke man has been fined after shooting at a deer decoy near Parry Sound.

On Nov. 17, 2023, conservation officers were conducting a decoy operation east of Parry Sound in response to complaints about trespassing and illegal hunting in the area. A man shot at a decoy from the roadway, onto a property where he didn’t have permission to hunt, according to a news release from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry.

In March, Ernesto Soares pleaded guilty to trespassing for the purpose of hunting and discharging a firearm from the roadway. He was fined $8,000 and his hunting licence will be suspended for two years. The firearm he used was seized as part of the investigation and was forfeited to the Crown.
