CFUW Orillia is proud to announce its 70th anniversary, marking seven decades of dedicated service to the local community and a steadfast commitment to advancing women’s education, rights, and social justice.
Since its founding in 1955, CFUW Orillia has been at the forefront of empowering women through advocacy, scholarships, and community engagement.
To celebrate this remarkable milestone, CFUW Orillia has planned a year-long series of events to reflect on its rich history and accomplishments.
Each monthly meeting will feature a retrospective on one of the past seven decades, highlighting the challenges, triumphs, and notable achievements of the club throughout its 70-year journey. These presentations will explore the organization’s role in supporting women’s educational opportunities, as well as its contributions to key social issues in the region.
The celebration will culminate in a 70th Anniversary Gala Banquet on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at Casino Rama Resort. The evening promises to be an unforgettable event, featuring a special interview with internationally acclaimed author and Canadian icon Margaret Atwood.
Known for the breadth of her award-winning poetry, fiction and literary criticism, Atwood’s interests range from gender and identity to religion and myth, to the power of language, to climate change, to power politics. An evening with Atwood will be one to remember.
“We are excited to celebrate such a significant milestone in our history,” said Heather Lewis, president of CFUW Orillia. “For seven decades, our members have been committed to making a positive impact in the lives of women, locally and globally. We reflect on our past, celebrate our achievements, and look forward to continuing this important work for years to come.”
