Mariposa Arts Theatre’s Film Nights is pleased to continue its winter series of movies with Treasure on Wednesday at Orillia Galaxy Cinemas at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Treasure is a 2024 film that tells the story of Ruth (Lena Dunham), a young New York woman who, shortly after the collapse of the Iron Curtain, accompanies her father Edek (Stephen Fry) to Poland for a tour of his childhood home, the remnants of the family’s business, and the concentration camp at Auschwitz, which he miraculously survived.
Audiences have loved the film, praising its sensitivity and subtle humour. They describe it as “touching, beautiful, heartwarming”. “The film has real heart and soul,” said another audience member. Treasure had its world premiere at the 74th Berlin International Film Festival, and has gone on to be seen by audiences around the world.
Subsequent films in the winter series are Good One on Feb. 26, Universal Language on March 5, All We Imagine As Light on March 19, Small Things Like These on April 2, and Shepherds on April 16.
All films are shown twice, at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., at Orillia Galaxy Cinemas, with ticket sales at the door one hour before each screening. Tickets cost $10 regular admission, $5 student admission, and can be purchased with cash, credit or debit.
MAT Film Nights is Orillia’s popular local source for outstanding movies selected from the Toronto International Film Festival’s Film Circuit catalogue. It provides the opportunity for audiences to see films from Canada and around the world in the company of fellow enthusiasts.
