The Mariposa Folk Foundation has announced its partnership with Downtown Orillia for the sixth annual Mariposa Downtown Stages, as part of this year’s 58th Mariposa Folk Festival from July 6 to 8 in Tudhope Park.
In addition to the full festival, festival goers and the general public will be able to enhance their festival experience free of charge with performances in the heart of Downtown Orillia on Friday, July 6 and Saturday, July 7. The Downtown Stage, sponsored by Gilbert Guitars in Downtown Orillia, is located on Mississaga Street between Peter and Matchedash streets.
The stage, debuting in 2013, features the same great and emerging artists the festival is known nationwide for and opens several hours ahead of the main event on Friday.
"We are delighted to be partnering with Mariposa Folk Festival once again this year," said Lisa Thomson-Roop, Manager at the Downtown Orillia Management Board. “The Downtown Stage and experience is fast becoming a must do on many festival goers list. We are proud to be part of this incredible Orillia festival weekend.”
There will be a free shuttle bus traveling to and from Tudhope Park and Downtown Orillia on Friday between the hours of 12 p.m. – 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
The shuttle is designed to be worry free and will drop you off right at the Mariposa Downtown Stage & Story Stage and get you back to the main site without missing a beat.
Look for the Mariposa Shuttle Stop Sign at the festival entrance close to the Barnfield Recreation Centre. There will also be a main Mariposa Shuttle pick-up at Matchedash and Mississaga Street running throughout the festival beginning at 3:30 pm on Friday and continuing all weekend long.
The Mariposa Downtown Stage features premium acts that Mariposa is famous for and the partnership offers a taste of the festival in heart Orillia.
It not only enhances the experience for festival attendees, it exposes those not familiar with the Mariposa Folk Festival to the quality performers that grace the main site stages year after year.
