As Mariposa House Hospice starts to take shape, the search is on for an executive director.
“We’re looking for the right person who has that passion for hospice care. It’ll be a great opportunity for someone in this first-class facility,” said Si Lowry, co-chair of Mariposa House Hospice. “It would be an advantage to have some nursing background, but it’s not a prerequisite.”
Health-care professionals have already shown “a lot of interest” in the job, he said.
“It often appeals to some people more than acute care,” he explained. “It’s extremely satisfying work because you can bring such comfort to not only the residents, but their families.”
Applications for the position are due by Dec. 20 and the plan is to have an executive director in place in January. Once the top job is filled, the organization will start looking for staff — at least four nurses and four personal support workers — “and then tons and tons of volunteers,” Lowry said.
Mariposa House Hospice has 30 to 40 volunteers, but more will be sought once the facility is up and running.
Work on the site of the five-bed residential hospice, at 1140 Brodie Dr. in Severn Township, is on schedule, with a planned opening in April or May.
The lot has been paved and the framing is up.
“We’re pushing ahead to get that closed up before the winter really hits,” Lowry said. “We’re still shooting for the spring, and it’s going really well.”
