Mariposa Arts Theatre’s Film Nights is pleased to continue its winter series of movies with Good One on Wednesday, Feb. 26 at Orillia Galaxy Cinemas at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Good One is the 2024 debut drama film by American director, India Donaldson, in which 17-year-old Sam embarks on a three-day backpacking trip in the Catskills with her dad, Chris, and his oldest friend Matt.
As the two men quickly settle into a gently quarrelsome brotherly dynamic, Sam, wise beyond her years, attempts to mediate. Ultimately, Sam’s trust is betrayed, as she struggles with her dad‘s emotional limitations.
Good One is an emotionally expansive work that probes the limits of familial trust, understanding, and ultimately forgiveness. Critics have called it superbly acted and very well directed. This film was nominated at both Sundance and Cannes film festivals.
Mark your calendars for the following in the film series: Universal Language on March 5, All We Imagine Is Light on March 19, Small Things Like These on April 2, and finally Shepherds on April 16.
All films are shown twice at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., at Orillia Galaxy Cinemas, with ticket sales available at the door one hour before each screening. Tickets cost $10 regular admission, $5 student admission, and can be purchased with cash, credit or debit.
