Merry Christmas, boaters

Port of Orillia's Christmas in June happening today

The Port of Orillia is an unseasonable sight to behold today.

Boaters are getting into the holiday spirit for the annual Christmas in June, decorating their vessels with lights, Christmas trees, snowmen and inflatable Santas.

“Boaters want an excuse to start summer, and it’s nicer to celebrate Christmas in the warm weather,” said port harbour master Allan Lafontaine.

The boats and decorations will be judged later this afternoon, with various prizes being handed out to boaters. There will also be some live music.

Members of the public are invited to check out the boats when the sun goes down, when they are lit up in all their festive glory.
