The Orillia Naturalists’ Club invites you to two events on Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2025. Whether you’re interested in visual storytelling and wildlife research or keen on exploring the wonders of winter, we have something for everyone.

  • Event 1: Algonquin Wildlife Through the Lens of Samantha Stephens
  • Time: 7– 9 p.m.
  • Format: Zoom Only

Join us for an engaging evening with Samantha Stephens, a biologist turned conservation photographer. Samantha will share her experiences documenting wildlife research in Algonquin Provincial Park. Drawing on her scientific background, she will discuss how photography serves as a powerful tool to communicate the importance of conservation and science. Her stunning visual storytelling brings attention to the beauty of the natural world and the efforts to protect it.

Samantha is a graduate of the Environmental Visual Communication program offered by the Royal Ontario Museum and Fleming College. A National Geographic Explorer and Emerging League Member of the International League of Conservation Photographers, her work has been featured in bioGraphic, National Wildlife Magazine, National Geographic, and Canadian Geographic. Samantha currently spends much of her time documenting wildlife research projects at the Algonquin Wildlife Research Station.

  • Event 2: Winter Snowshoe Adventure
  • Time: 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
  • Location: Copeland Forest, P2 parking lot

Bundle up and join us for a walk in the Copeland Forest. Executive member Carol Strickland will lead this outing to explore whatever there is to see, with a focus on tracks in the snow. It will be an easy paced snowshoe with stops along the way to identify tracks. Dress warmly and bring water, a snack if you wish, perhaps a measuring tape or ruler.

Meet at P2 parking lot off Ingram Road at 9:50, or Zehrs parking lot (SE corner) to carpool at 9:25. We will leave Zehrs at 9:30 sharp.
