Alex Chiu of Maple won a $1-million Maxmillions prize in the Aug. 13 Lotto Max draw.

After a rough night with his newborn, married father of two Alex Chiu of Maple was in disbelief on learning he had won a $1-million Maxmillions prize in the Aug. 13, 2024 Lotto Max draw.

“To be honest, I was having a rough morning. My newborn had kept me up all night,” Chiu recalled, while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up his winnings. “I received an email from OLG confirming I had won, and at first, I thought it had to be a scam. I just kept staring at the screen. I was shocked, thinking to myself, ‘What am I seeing here? OMG.’”

“I think I am still in disbelief. This win could not have come at a better time,” he concluded.

Chiu, a visual effects artist, has been playing the lottery with OLG for about three months and this is his first big win.

With his windfall, he plans to save for his children’s education and invest.

The winning ticket was purchased on OLG.ca.
