Green Haven Shelter for Women (GHSW) proudly announces the appointment of Linda Reid as the organization’s new executive director, effective Dec. 11. Reid brings over 15 years of exceptional leadership within the nonprofit sector, coupled with a profound commitment to advancing the mission of supporting survivors of gender-based violence (GBV) and empowering self-identifying women in need.

“We are delighted to announce Linda Reid as our new executive director. Her long history with providing sustainable strategic direction will strengthen Green Haven’s ability to support and empower survivors of gender-based violence and abuse in Orillia and the surrounding area,” says Kyla Epstein, board chair of GHSW

Reid’s extensive background in senior leadership roles within the non-profit sector has honed her expertise in driving transformative change. Reid’s success with securing funding through successful grant applications and fundraising initiatives brings optimism to the organization at this time. Obtaining funding has been vital for the shelter, especially amidst and following the COVID-19 pandemic, given the rising need for services and assistance for those fleeing violence and abuse.

Reid’s profound commitment to social change aligns seamlessly with GHSW’s mission, ensuring a continuity of purpose and unwavering dedication to women and children in the community.

"I am excited for the opportunity to work with the staff and board of directors of Green Haven Shelter for Women and can’t wait to get started working on fulfilling their new mission, vision, and values," says Reid.

With a remarkable history of public speaking engagements at various community events, fundraisers, and outreach initiatives, Reid brings a powerful voice to advocate for survivors and victims of GBV. Her leadership in Dress for Success Orillia and Barrie, where she successfully supported over 3,000 women in Simcoe County, speaks volumes about her dedication to serving women within the community.

Reid's personal journey as a survivor of GBV has deeply connected her to the core mission of GHSW.

"As a survivor of GBV, the vital work that Green Haven Shelter for Women does to support women in our community is very dear to my heart. I look forward to sharing opportunities for our community to support the work of Green Haven to ensure women have access to safe shelter and programs to help them heal and move forward with rebuilding their lives."

Furthermore, Reid emphasized the importance of community involvement in addressing GBV. "Raising awareness around the epidemic that is GBV is key to reducing the stigma and shame survivors often experience and as a result keeps them silent. Awareness can also provide community members the knowledge and confidence to help support women who experience GBV. I look forward to continuing the conversation in our community on how others can support women who experience GBV."

GHSW welcomes Linda Reid's wealth of experience, dedication to uplifting those in challenging circumstances, and vision for community involvement and advocacy. Her leadership will strengthen the organization’s mission to provide safety, shelter, and opportunities for change to survivors of gender-based violence.
