The Orillia Museum of Art & History (OMAH) has an exciting fall season planned with new exhibitions and programs.
Six new exhibitions will be opening this fall at OMAH. First, “When The Green Dark Forest Was Too Silent To Be Real” by Tina Poplawski will be opening Sept. 7.
This exhibition will feature large scale works inspired by the crocheted doilies created by her grandmother during the war, Eastern European folk heritage, botanical matter and animals native to Central Ontario and her environment.
The special reception will be Saturday, Sept. 14 from 2-4 p.m.. Poplawski will be doing an artist’s talk on the same day from 12:30-1:30pm. An Artist Talk is just that, an opportunity to hear an artist talk about their work. This talk will be $5 for museum members and $10 dollars for non-members.
In the Lounge Gallery, “Pest Control” will be opening on Sept. 28. This exhibition is a partnership with the Orillia Centre For Arts + Culture and features work by artists John Ross and Amy Swartz.
Next, “After Krieghoff” will be opening on Sept. 21. “After Krieghoff” is comprised of a series of stereoscopic photo and video compositions using artist Ingrid Mayrhofer's own photographs of landscapes and objects together with skies from a Cornelius Krieghoff painting. Ingrid will have an artist’s talk from 12-12:45 pm on Oct. 19. This artist’s talk will also be $5 for museum members and $10 for non-members.
Following this exhibition will be the annual Sir Sam Society’s Art Exchange Exhibition. This exhibition features work by local and regional artists that will be selected by members of Sir Sam’s Society. Sir Sam’s Society was launched two years ago and is a premium annual membership that includes a $300 tax receipt.
Memberships can be purchased at anytime during the year. The 2019 Carmichael Canadian Landscape Exhibition opens Nov. 8. Stay tuned for the artist announcement on Monday, Sept. 16 and find out who the jury chose for this year’s exhibition.
Opening Oct. 12 will be “Industrial Legacy: A History of Dorr-Oliver-Long Limited”. The history of the company that ultimately became Dorr-Oliver-Long Ltd. is one that is full of family connection, perseverance, and contributions to the local community. This exhibition showcases artifacts from the company’s rich history, including never-before-seen working models of products manufactured by Dorr-Oliver-Long Ltd.
There will be a special reception on Saturday, Oct. 19 from 1-3 p.m. for After Kreighoff, Industrial Legacy and Sir Sam Society’s Art Exchange. All special receptions are free to attend and all are welcome.
