NEWS RELEASE
ORILLIA PERCH FESTIVAL
*************************
The Orillia Perch Festival start date was delayed because of the province-wide lockdown in Ontario.

The Perch Festival will commence on the first Saturday after the lockdown is lifted. That means anglers' long awaited chance to get out fishing in the festival will start on June 5 and run to June 26.

The Perch Festival has gone virtual like many other events this year because of COVID-19. However, the only virtual aspect is how you register and submit your daily catch. You still get to go fishing and catch a perch to qualify for all the draws and tagged perch cash awards. The festival runs for three weeks (22 days) and averages about 3,500 anglers. Click here for updates.

This year is the 40th Anniversary of the Orillia Perch Festival, and it is full of opportunities to win amazing prizes, with over $80,000 in cash and prizes available to be won.

The approach is different this year. You still fish to win, only now you will submit a picture from your cell phone of the fish you caught to be eligible to win. This qualifies you for a daily draw, a weekly draw, and the grand prize draw and for catching a tagged perch. There is still only one submission per day.

To register, for rules and regulation check out a printable virtual Perch Book with all the info and prizes and sponsor information, click here

The website has an app that you download to your cellphone which then becomes your registration form. Your phone also will allow the festival to identify you as one of the winners of the draws and/or a Tagged Perch. Each day you fish you must register your daily catch before 7 p.m. to qualify for the draws that day.

The Orillia Perch Festival remains a great opportunity for both young and old to get outdoors safely. Participants have a very large area to do their angling this year.

Fishing areas include Lakes Simcoe, Couchiching and all the waters in Simcoe County.

Orillia Perch Festival organizers says fishing is a unique sport and encourages participants to get outside and fish safely.

"Fishing creates good quality time together and the memories that go with that," say organizers. "We have increased our fishing footprint to promote social distancing, as well as putting our [Orillia Perch Festival] book online and making it printable to reduce physical contact.”

The Orillia Perch Festival Adult Grand Prize is a fisherman’s dream and is especially attractive in that boats are extremely hard to find this year. The Adult Grand Prize Award is a LUND Custom Fishing Boat including a Cummins Tonneau Cover, Minn Kota 55lb Bow Trolling Motor, Humminbird Helix 5 / GPS with trailer and a 50 HP Mercury Outboard all valued at over $30,000!

To register, it is $5 for children, and $25 for adults. For more information, click here,  where you can read and print an online Perch Festival book, look into registration details, and read updates.

The more days you fish the more chances you have…Just fish to win!
