Public Health Ontario has reported 1,691 new cases of COVID-19 today (May 23).
Today's report includes 2,458 recoveries and 15 new deaths.
The May 23 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:
- 20,672 active, lab-confirmed cases, which is down from 21,454 reported yesterday.
- 1,041 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in Ontario, down from 1,207 reported yesterday.
- There are 693 patients in intensive care units because of COVID-19 (down from 706 yesterday) and 480 COVID patients on ventilators (down from 504 reported yesterday).
- The province reported 31,227 tests were processed yesterday resulting in a 5.7 per cent positivity rate.
- Another 9,513 tests are still under investigation and/or being processed. To date, 15.0 million tests have been completed.
- Of the new cases reported today, 455 are from Toronto, 326 cases are from Peel, and 173 are from York Region..
Vaccines
- There were 140,330 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered on May 22, which is down from 190,129 administered on May 21.
- As of 8 p.m. on May 22, the province reported 8,065,607 doses of vaccine against COVID-19 have been administered.
- In total, 531,603 people have been fully vaccinated.
Public Health Ontario has confirmed 522,465 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 493,179 recoveries and 8,614 deaths, of which 3,947 were individuals living in long-term care facilities.
Due to the Victoria Day holiday, there will be no provincial COVID numbers on Monday.
