Public Health Ontario reported 511 new COVID cases in today's update (Aug. 15).
This is the fourth consecutive report of more than 500 cases in a day, numbers not seen since mid-June in Ontario though the number has dipped from the 578 reported on Saturday.
Today's update noted 270 recoveries and no new deaths.
The Aug. 15 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:
- 3,667 active, lab-confirmed cases, up from 3,426 yesterday.
- 98 people are currently hospitalized in Ontario with COVID-19.
- Public Health Ontario is also reporting that more than 10 per cent of hospitals did not submit data to the daily bed census on Sunday, which means the number of hospitalizations could rise when those hospitals submit data again.
- There are 89 COVID-positive people in intensive care units, another 27 patients in the ICU because of COVID no longer test positive.
- 53 COVID-positive are on ventilators, and another 18 patients ventilated because of COVID no longer test positive.
- The province reported 19,192 tests were processed yesterday, resulting in a 2.6 per cent positivity rate.
- There are 7,490 tests still awaiting processing, and the provincial labs have processed 16.8 million tests to date.
Vaccination status
The vaccination breakdown for new cases is as follows:
- New cases include 350 unvaccinated, 67 partially vaccinated, and 94 fully vaccinated.
- Hospitalized (non-ICU) cases include 39 unvaccinated, one partially vaccinated, and six fully vaccinated.
- ICU cases include 33 unvaccinated, two partially vaccinated, and none fully vaccinated.
Today's vaccination rate update includes:
- 40,907 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered yesterday.
- 20,187,843 doses of vaccine have been administered.
- In total, 9,563,420 people have been fully vaccinated.
Total case counts and rates
Public Health Ontario has confirmed 555,561 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 542,476 recoveries and 9,418 deaths.
