NEWMARKET JURIED ART SHOW

This spring, the Newmarket Juried Art Show (NJAS) has popped up a Winter Mini Show online to offer artists the chance to tell us about their COVID winter.
And boy, did they ever! Forty-nine artworks by 37 different Ontario artists were jury-selected to be in the show. The artists are from 26 different Ontario towns. All work was created in the winters of 2020 (after the pandemic was declared) and 2021.
Orillia's Marlene Bulas is one of the featured artists. This is what she had to say about her work - The Family Creek - for this event: As a child growing up on a farm in Oro-Medonte, I had many memories of those days. The creek went through our fields, and it was a special place for me and my siblings every time of the year. During the pandemic of 2020, it was the perfect answer.

2020 show
The first annual Newmarket Juried Art Show was put on in October 2019 at The Old Town Hall. We were unable to repeat that success in quite the same way in 2020.
NJAS managed to pivot in 2020 and put together a very successful online show, with 41 artists entering, 28 of whom were juried in. You can see the online gallery, the reception video and music, and all the other details here.
We even had a special 3D show and international reception thanks to Newmarket artist and entrepreneur Brendon McNaughton's virtual reality application ArtGateVR.
The Newmarket Juried Art Show is organized and run by Newmarket couple David Kempton and Peggy Stevens. It is not-for-profit, supported by donations from local citizens and businesses. In 2019, we partnered with the Town of Newmarket to hold the show in the Old Town Hall.
The Show is open to Ontario artists. In 2019, a number of them from other parts of Ontario came to Newmarket to see the show and for the opening reception. A number stayed to explore Newmarket’s historic Main Street area.
