After traveling the world for his research, Dr. Timothy Andrews Sayle returns to his hometown of Orillia to offer a sweeping history of the most critical alliance in the post-World War II era: the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

NATO’s fundamental goal was to prevent the world from falling back into general war. So far it has been successful. But how did NATO’s leaders fear war might come? And why, in 2019, are those fears rekindled?

The topic is the focus of an Aug. 28 talk by Sayle, Assistant Professor of History and Director of the International Relations Program at the University of Toronto.

The one-hour lecture presented by Third Age Learning Lakehead will take place at St. Paul's Centre starting at 7 p.m. followed by a wine and cheese reception. This event is open to the public.

A partnership between the Third Age Network and Lakehead Orillia, Third Age Learning Lakehead (TALL) provides seniors and those interested in lifelong learning with informed presentations from experts along with an opportunity to socialize and discuss issues and ideas.

Tickets to the event are $35. To register, go to lakeheadu.ca/tal and click on the Upcoming Events banner, call us at 705-330-4008 ext. 2632, or email [email protected]. Proceeds will support the next series of lectures organized under TALL.
