On Sunday, the Orillia Concert Band performed the first of five retirement home Christmas mini-concerts at the Atrium Retirement Home in Orillia. Due to space limitations at this location, a mini 10-piece band was formed from the 55-member main band.

The band performed popular Christmas carols which the residents sang along to using handed out carol sheets. The residents loved the concert and the opportunity to sing their favourite carols with the band.

This was the first time in years, thanks to COVID restrictions, the band has been able to visit retirement homes in person.

The band has been overwhelmed with requests from the retirement homes this season, as the residents really missed the opportunity to sing along with a live band. In addition to the Atrium residence the band is scheduled to bring the joy of Christmas music to the residents of Champlain, Trillium, Sundial and Leacock in the coming weeks.

If you want to share the joy of live music and singing along with the band, this Saturday the Orillia Concert Band is putting on its annual pair of Christmas concerts at St. Paul’s Centre in Orillia.

The family-friendly one-hour Afternoon Christmas Concert starts at 3:30 p.m. (Santa will be making an appearance!) and the traditional two-hour Christmas Prelude Concert starts at 7:30 p.m. with guest choir Orillia Vocal Ensemble.

Tickets and further concert information are available via the band’s website and will be available at the door (cash only).

The Orillia Concert Band, who love bringing the joy of live music to our community, wish everyone a safe and festive holiday season.
