The Orillia Concert Band, under the direction of Randy Hoover, is excited to present The Magical World of Music, our mystical, marvellous March concert. Don’t forget your magic wands, solar goggles and pointy hats! Or your Cheshire Cat! Adventure awaits!

Our guest solo artist is the talented and always delightful, mezzo soprano Christina Bosco. We are having wonderful fun together rehearsing “When You Wish Upon A Star” and did you know that Shrek included “Hallelujah” by Canada’s own Leonard Cohen? What a great reason to include this treasure! Christina’s interpretations of both songs is just amazing!

We’ll include other delights like “Alice in Wonderland” and Beauty and the Beast”. For adventure and far away worlds, sit back and let us take you away with “Guardians Of the Galaxy”, “The Incredibles” or “Battle of the the Heroes”.

Join us on March 8th at 7:30 pm at St. Paul’s Centre for an evening of fun. Doors open at 6:30 pm. Refreshments available before the concert and during intermission, courtesy of the St. Paul’s Pub Committee.

Information on the performers:

The “Orillia Concert Band” is a 45-member recreational band based in the Orillia area, featuring wind, brass, and percussion instruments. Members range in age between 18 years to 81 years! The OCB presents a three-concert series each year plus charitable fund raisers and concerts for special events. Randy Hoover has been a contributor to the Orillia music community for many years. He has a Bachelor of Music and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Western Ontario as well as a Master’s of Education degree from St. Mary’s University.

He holds an Associate Diploma from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Trumpet Performance. He has taught secondary school music in Nova Scotia, Shelburne Ontario and Orangeville. For the past seven years Randy has taught at Lakehead in the education program.

Locally, Randy has played in the Orillia Concert Band, the Orillia Silver Band, the Sensations Rhythm and Blues Band and with the Mariposa Arts Theatre. He is founder of the Leacock Brass Quintet and has been conductor of the Orillia Silver Junior Band. He is the founder of the Jazz Standards Trio and is currently the Music Director of the Orillia Concert Band and the Orillia Big Band.

Christina Bosco is a well-known classical and contemporary vocal soloist. Christina has been the music director at Twin Lakes Secondary School in Orillia since 2003, and was the music director for the Mariposa Arts Theatre’s sold-out production of the musical Chicago in 2017.

Graduating with honours from the highly from the highly acclaimed voice program at the University of Western Ontario, Christina actively involves herself with the performing arts. From being the president of the award-winning choir Les Choristes, to studying horn with world-renowned Eric Shultz, she challenges her students every day to live by her same ideals.
