Fairfield by Marriott Orillia general manager Michelle Weber was recently named the General Manager of the Year and Diamond General Manager of the Year by Marriott Hotels.

An Orillia hotel has been recognized for being one of the best hospitality services in the world under the Marriott brand.

The Fairfield by Marriott hotel recently won the Platinum Circle Award for being in the top five per cent of Marriott hotels globally for guest services scores.

General manager Michelle Weber says the staff at the hotel are the key to the success.

“We always go above and beyond,” she said. “My team takes pride in the property as if they own it.”

She says it’s nice for employees to be recognized.

“They genuinely care about our guests,” she said. “They engage and create a terrific atmosphere.”

The hotel, which opened in March 2021, was the only Canadian property under the Marriott banner that won the award.

“We are competing against some big brand-name hotels,” she said. “For example, we are competing against the Ritz-Carlton in Toronto. That makes winning this award extra special.”

Weber received the General Manager of the Year and Diamond General Manager of the Year awards after having two brand standard audits and “developing a great relationship” with the local community.

“For a brand-new property, that is usually unheard of,” she said. “There is so much that goes into receiving that award.”

While the award is given to an individual, Weber says it was her team that earned it.

“It takes a great team to get its leader to where they need to be,” she said. “I’m really humbled to share this award with our team.”
