Orillia’s mayor got some face time with Premier Doug Ford during a visit to Queen’s Park on Thursday.

Steve Clarke and city CAO Gayle Jackson met with Ford and Steve Clark, minister of municipal affairs and housing.

When Ford was in Orillia, “we had talked about the possibility of us coming down to Queen’s Park and having a chat and putting Orillia on the map,” Clarke said.

During the half-hour visit, they discussed “some of the things going on in the city and how we’re going through a bit of a growth spurt” but want to maintain the modest feel of Orillia, the mayor said.

“It was a genuinely warm reception,” he said.

While no specific projects or concerns were discussed, “they did say that if we come up with an idea that makes sense, they would be quite willing to have that chat,” Clarke said.
