Orillia Mayor Steve Clarke is among municipal leaders from across Canada who are putting their trivia skills to the test for a good cause.
Clarke took part in an episode of Bring Your Eh! Game, an initiative to raise money for the Food Banks Canada COVID-19 Relief Fund.
Comedian and Cash Cab host Adam Growe hosts the episodes, each of which features four mayors.
The episode Clarke took part in has already been recorded and will be aired March 21 at 7 p.m. on Rogers TV and on YouTube. Joining him were Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown, Tara Veer, mayor of Red Deer, Alta., and Clara Reinhardt, mayor of Radium Hot Springs, B.C.
“It was gloves off, no holds barred,” Clarke joked of the competition. “Honestly, it was a lot of fun and camaraderie.”
Bring Your Eh! Game is presented by the team behind the Canada’s Top Mayor Award. That competition has been postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic, so the trivia challenge was created instead.
“When I found out it was raising money for food banks, I was glad to participate,” Clarke said. “I and many other mayors have been well aware of how acute food insecurity can be. It’s been an issue well before COVID, but it has exacerbated the issue.”
Bring Your Eh! Game is one way to help address the problem. People are asked to donate $5 or more and keep the momentum going by tagging five or more others on social media, along with the hashtag #BringYourEhGame, encouraging them to do the same.
Viewers can also take part interactively during the first broadcast by visiting adamquiz.ca on their mobile phones. They’ll have a chance to score trivia points and win prize packs.
Clarke is hoping Orillia steps up in a big way, as it often does.
“Orillia, over and over again, has proven to be a giving community,” he said. “If you’ve got an extra five bucks, I would encourage you to donate.”
