Drs. Al Hudak and Michelle Gordon are the 2018 recipients of two of the most prestigious physician achievement awards.

The Canadian Pediatric Society (CPS) bestowed the national Distinguished Community Pediatrician Award to Dr. Gordon in recognition of her significant contributions to the field of community pediatrics.

Dr. Gordon has been serving Orillia and surrounding communities for the past 15 years, the past ten as Chief of Neonatal and Pediatric Medicine at Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital (OSMH).

“This award is really a testament to the outstanding work done by all members of our department, and I am grateful to be part of such an outstanding team,” said Dr. Gordon, “I am particularly proud of our inpatient NICU and pediatrics programs, and our multidisciplinary teams who delivery care to infants and children with skill and expertise and allow us to have a nationally recognized program here in Orillia.”

Dr. Gordon joins Dr. Gary Smith as the only Orillia physicians to capture this national award. Dr. Smith won the award in 2010.

Fellow pediatrician Dr. Alan Hudak also has reason to celebrate this year as recipient of the Distinguished Service award from the Ontario Medical Association (OMA), which is presented to only one person each year for exceptional, long-standing service to the Association. Dr. Hudak has been active as a member of OMA Council since 1989, including the past 10 years as Chair.

“It’s been an honour to participate in the activities of the OMA over the past several years and I’m grateful for their recognition,” said Dr. Hudak, who was also acknowledged by OSMH in 2018 for 35 years of service.

“Awards such as these are well deserved and testament to the commitment that OSMH physicians have to our vision of Excellent Compassionate Care Everyday,” said Dr. Nancy Merrow, OSMH Chief of Staff.

Drs. Gordon and Hudak were presented with their awards at individual ceremonies that took place earlier this year.
