ORILLIA SILVER BAND

The Orillia Silver Band celebrates the holiday season with its traditional Sleigh Bells and Brass Christmas concert.
The concert takes place on Sunday, Dec. 17, 2023, 2 p.m. at the Orillia Opera House. Concert tickets are available from the Orillia Opera House website.
This concert continues a long and happy tradition of holiday music at the opera house provided by the Orillia Silver Band. Neil Barlow, the band’s music director and conductor, has made sure that there is plenty of holiday cheer on offer.
Among the items to be performed during the Christmas concert this year are Stephen Bulla’s Proclamation of Christmas, Morley Calvert’s beautiful The Festive Season, and the stunning work, The Kingdom Triumphant, by Eric Ball. Also included is a set of traditional holiday selections from Bach and Handel in the stirring Baroque triptych.
The concert will feature an exciting arrangement of the traditional Carol of the Bells, and a light-hearted setting of the Hawaiian Christmas song, Mele Kalikimaka, that incudes plenty of audience participation. For folks who truly love classic holiday music, the band will present the beloved tune, Sleigh Ride, by Leroy Anderson. And it wouldn’t be a silver band Christmas concert without an audience-request sing-along. So, come prepared to exercise your vocal skills with your favourite Christmas carols.
