Orillia woman's latest book full of fairy fun

Sarah Papple has released Sarah Apple's Fairy Spotting Guide; 'It is about the joy of being alive and celebrating nature'

Do you believe in magic? Sarah Papple hopes so.

The Orillia woman has been making quirky fairy figures since 2017. Now she has released a book to help people find their own.

Sarah Apple’s Fairy Spotting Guide became available for purchase about a week ago. It’s the first in a series of four, with this one focusing on the winter season.

She described the fairies she has created as “decoys.”

“I get a lot of feedback from people who say they’ve actually seen real fairies. You want to go look for real fairies? Go for it,” she said. “This is a field guide to help you.”

Every day since Jan. 1, 2017, Papple has taken her fairies into nature and photographed them. In her previous book, Sarah Apple: Volume 1, the photos were accompanied by writing that captured the ups and downs of her life.

The new book, according to Papple’s website, is “filled with Sarah Apple fairy photos, interviews, tips, secrets, found fairy footage, and a helpful glossary.”

While the self-published Sarah Apple’s Fairy Spotting Guide might have somewhat of a fantastic flair, the ultimate goal is rooted in real life.

“It’s to fight cynicism, frankly, and to get outside. The whole concept is slow down, look down, and you’ll find magic wherever you are,” Papple said. “It is about the joy of being alive and celebrating nature.”

Sarah Apple’s Fairy Spotting Guide is currently available for purchase through Papple’s website. It is also available at Manticore Books in downtown Orillia and at Quaker Oaks Farm near Sebright.

More of Papple’s fairy fun can be found on her TikTok account.
