Our mission at OrilliaMatters is to strengthen the communities we serve and in the spirit of strengthening the Orillia community, we are spearheading a food drive in support of the Sharing Place Food Centre.
The holidays can be a stressful time for many families and now more than ever, the Sharing Place Food Centre needs our help to keep the shelves stocked.
In response to that need, we bought $25 grocery gift cards for our loyal readers to purchase for the food bank through an online pop-up store.
OrilliaMatters then matched whatever was purchased as a cash donation to the food bank.
But that’s not all.
We know that Orillia is full of caring individuals and businesses who would generously donate to this initiative as well. So, we contacted a number of local businesses to see if they would also like to match reader contributions with a cash donation.
As a result, for every gift card purchased in our pop-up store from now until Dec. 15 at 12 p.m., each dollar will be matched by 18 times and all proceeds will go directly to the Sharing Place.
That means your $25 donation will be turned into a $450 donation!
Here is how you can buy a food package in support of the Sharing Place:
- Log in to your OrilliaMatters account (or register for free).
- Select a gift card you would like to donate and enter your credit card details.
- Check the 'Confirm’ button and click ‘Donate’ to confirm your purchase.
- That's it, you did it! You gave back to our community this holiday season.
Thanks to the following businesses who have joined us in matching each donation: Aknor Construction, Autoflex Sales & Leasing Ltd., CrossFit Orillia, FM Recycling, Happy at Home Support Services Inc., IPC Investment Corporation Ted Burton Team, Jack Latimer, Joe Watt’s Trophies, Lake Country Physiotherapy, Mark Goode - Mortgage Man, Northern Business Development, Orser Technical Services, Remedium, Rockwater Wealth Management, Ron Johnston Insurance, Roy Micks Remax and Sunshine Super Wash.
OrilliaMatters is proud to lead this worthwhile cause in an effort to reduce hunger and poverty in our community, particularly as the holiday season draws near.
Programs like this and support from businesses and community members - like you - help us to give back to Orillia.
Please note: if the donation item is sold out or the Food Drive has ended, you can donate to the local food drive directly! We appreciate your support.
