NEWS RELEASE
DOWNTOWN ORILLIA BIA
*************************
The Downtown Orillia Business Improvement Area (DOBIA) board of management would like to advise DOBIA members and the community about the results of the recent internal election for the executive officer positions of the DOBIA board that was held at the January board meeting.

Every year, the DOBIA board conducts an internal election to choose who will assume the various executive officer roles of the board. These roles include chair, vice-chair, treasurer and secretary. All of these roles are volunteer and require a significant investment of personal time.

We’d like to thank outgoing executive officers Jeff Gilbert (former vice-chair) and Darcy MacDonell (former treasurer) for their commitment over the past year. Both were strong voices at the board table and instrumental in the success of the DOBIA in 2024. They will remain on the board as directors.

For the 2025 DOBIA board, the new executive officers are as follows:

  • Doug Cooper — chair
  • Jennie-May Banks — vice-chair
  • Michael Fredson — treasurer
  • Megan Murray — secretary

“On behalf of the BIA board and all of our members, we would like to sincerely thank outgoing chair Michael Fredson for his remarkable efforts and commitment to the BIA. His strong leadership during a time of great change helped steer the BIA towards a much stronger position and a brighter future. I have learned a great deal from Michael during his tenure and hope to fill the big shoes he leaves behind.” — Doug Cooper, Downtown Orillia BIA board chair
