Kiwanis Club of Orillia inducts two new members.

Two local men, Paul Ross and Rick O’Neill, were inducted into the Orillia Kiwanis Club at Monday’s lunch meeting this week.

Following lunch, President Korine Keyzer introduced John Mayo, a former President of the Club, to emcee the induction process and speak directly to the two new members.

Mayo pointed out that current members of the Orillia club include 19 former presidents and that 12 of them were in the audience to witness the induction that day. He noted that those doing his job in the Induction ceremony often point to different reasons for being a Kiwanian—some pointing to the international status and impact of Kiwanis International, some focussing on the past projects that the club members have completed in the community, while most would simply focus on the friendships that develop within the Club.

Mayo urged the two new inductees to make a point to come out to the lunches to make friends and keep abreast of the work the club is doing. He also urged them to mark Nov. 7 on their calendars—the date of the 2020 Kiwanis Auction, the source of the community funds that the cub dispenses, and a source, as well, of much Kiwanis fun.

Sponsor Rob Town then introduced Paul Ross to the club members. Ross moved to Orillia from Toronto some six years ago. He is a cabinet-maker and carpenter who specializes in “live-edge furniture.” He’s a bridge player and a curler and Town has already recruited him as “a T-ball coach for this spring.”

President Korine Keyzer was sponsor for Rick O’Neill. O'Neill is a “relations manager” at BMO, working out of the County Fair plaza branch, though apparently often on the road. He lives in Elmvale and has two daughters. He’s a hockey player in his spare time. He’s looking to participate in our community in a larger volunteer role.

Both inductees spoke of looking forward to club membership and activities as they received their official certificates, pins and name badges.

Welcome, Paul and Rick, to the Orillia Kiwanis club—now entering its 96th year of service to the Orillia community.
