Past and present collide at Downtown Orillia Classic Car Show (9 photos)

More than 400 vehicles on display; show runs until 5 p.m. today

As the rain made way to sunshine, the crowds came out in droves for Saturday’s 21st annual Downtown Orillia Classic Car Show.

More than 400 vehicles are on display today, including Ray Fischer’s 1963 Studebaker pickup.

The Orillia man bought the truck eight years ago and takes it to shows around the region.

“It’s my baby,” he said. “I’ve always loved Studebakers and I had a Studebaker car when I was a kid.”

He likes to take it out for a drive when the weather is nice, but the truck has never seen a winter.

Nor has Bill Black’s 1979 Ford stepside. The Coldwater-area man bought it new 40 years ago and has shown it at auto shows in Orillia and Wasaga Beach.

“It’s different,” he said, “but I often get people coming up and saying they used to have one.”

Black’s reason for entering the show is simple: “It’s just to show it off.”

The car show runs until 5 p.m. today.
