There is a wide swath of damage in the south end of Barrie after what appears to be a tornado touched down Thursday afternoon at about 2:30 p.m.
The bulk of the damage appears to be in the Mapleview Drive area around Prince William Way and Majesty Boulevard.
There are no reports of injuries yet, although it is feared some people remain trapped inside their homes.
Traffic around the area is backed up for blocks. Emergency officials are asking people to avoid this area to allow them to help those in need of help.
