NEWS RELEASE
TOWNSHIP OF RAMARA
*************************
Gary Hetherington, councillor for Ward 4, has resigned from his position on council effective immediately.
The councillor Ward 4 office will be declared vacant at the council meeting on Dec. 11.
“On behalf of the council and the entire township, I’m sorry to hear of Gary’s resignation; he will be missed,” states Mayor Basil Clarke.
“Gary has been a great councillor and an outstanding ambassador for the people of Ramara Township. He always kept an open mind and a calm demeanour and represented his ward and the entire township well.
"This decision wouldn’t have been easy to make, and I’m sure Gary has given it much thought. I respect Gary’s decision, and we should all respect his request for privacy.
"Many things can happen in a year that can change your life’s direction or the direction you want to take. I wish Gary well and hope he has many great years ahead. In the meantime, council will continue to serve the residents of Ramara as we determine the best option going forward.”
A report outlining options and associated legislated time frames on filling the vacancy will be presented for council consideration at the Jan. 15, 2024 committee of the whole meeting.
