TORONTO -- City News is reporting that the province is considering keeping Ontario schools closed for in-class learning for at least two weeks, switching to a virtual-only option coming out of the Christmas break.
The news organization reports that Premier Doug Ford met with his cabinet on Sunday and also discussed the implementation of other restrictions, including a ban on indoor dining and the closure of gyms.
If enacted, the new restrictions would go into effect on Wednesday and be in place for at least three weeks, City New reports, citing multiple unnamed sources.
Premier Doug Ford had already announced that students would stay out of the classroom for two extra days following the break, expected to return to in-person learning on Wednesday.
Other restrictions being considered include reducing indoor gatherings to five or fewer fully vaccinated people and 25 outdoors, with 50 per cent capacity at essential retail and 25 per cent at non-essential retail.
Ford is scheduled to make an announcement at 11 a.m. today from Queen's Park. He will be joined by Christine Elliott, deputy premier and minister of health, Dr. Kieran Moore, chief medical officer of health, and Matt Anderson, CEO of Ontario Health.
