Mick Jagger announced Saturday he requires medical attention and has had to postpone the Rolling Stones upcoming tour - which was to include a stop at Burl's Creek.

It was the Tweet heard ‘round the world.

On Saturday, Mick Jagger, the legendary lead singer of the ‘world’s greatest rock ’n’ roll band’, announced on Twitter that he required some medical attention.

That means The Rolling Stones’ No Filter tour has been postponed.

In his Tweet, Jagger said he’s “devastated for having to postpone the tour” and promised he would be “working very hard to be back on stage as soon as I can.”

The Stones’ lone Canadian date had been scheduled for June 29 at Burl’s Creek Event Grounds in Oro-Medonte Township, just 10 minutes south of Orillia.

When the news went viral on the weekend, many of the 70,000-plus fans who had purchased coveted tickets for the local show, expressed their disappointment.

But Republic Live, the promoter of the Burl’s Creek concert, says fans should hold on to those tickets.

“Fans who have tickets to attend these shows are advised to hold onto their existing tickets as they will be valid for the rescheduled dates,” said a Republic Live official in an email to OrilliaMatters.

When asked if the show will go on, given the tight window of opportunity for an outdoor show in central Ontario, officials said they remain hopeful.

“We are deeply committed to our community, fans, attendees and partners and look forward to welcoming Mick and The Rolling Stones to Burl’s Creek as soon as he has recovered,” said the emailed statement.

“As mentioned in the announcement on Saturday, Mick Jagger has been advised by doctors that he cannot go on tour at this time as he needs medical treatment,” noted the officials.

“The doctors have advised Mick that he is expected to make a complete recovery so that he can get back on stage as soon as possible.”

Like music fans everywhere, the concert promoters are hoping for a speedy comeback.

“On behalf of Republic Live and Burl’s Creek, we wish Mick a swift recovery and our main focus is, of course, his health.”

Republic Live said they “will share an update on the Canadian tour stop as soon as we receive additional information.”
