Revellers in downtown Barrie happily rang in the new year despite a constant barrage of wet snow, which failed to dampen spirits.

This year’s free Downtown Countdown celebration boasted a mainly country music lineup lineup featuring headliner Madeline Merlo, Sonshine and Broccoli as the children’s performer, and local artist Kyle Wauchope.

In addition to the musical performances, the Downtown Countdown celebration included skating, family activities, roaming buskers, a warming bonfire and two fireworks shows. The first blast of fireworks followed the children’s show and the second show was at midnight.
