The Rotary Club of Orillia isn’t going to let a pandemic get in the way of an annual event that supports local women and the community as a whole.
What would have been the sixth annual Girls’ Night Out has become Girls’ Night In, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The virtual event will take place April 5, with proceeds from raffle ticket sales being shared among the Rotary club, for its community work, and women’s health services at Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital.
The event usually draws about 200 people to Fern Resort for a night of socializing, dancing and shopping. Instead, this year, there will be a “Zoom fellowship and fun night” online that will include conversation, music and games.
“It’s about having that same feeling of connection with other women,” said Toyin Crandell, the club’s public relations chair. “In the middle of COVID, there’s a lot of things that are causing stress for many women. This is one way to support each other and give back to the community.”
The club’s goal is to sell 740 raffle tickets. More than 200 have been sold so far.
“Hopefully, the community steps up to have some fun and support the community,” Crandell said.
The online social event on April 5 will start at 7 p.m. The winning raffle tickets will be drawn at 2 p.m.
Tickets cost $20 each and can be purchased until March 31.
Raffle prizes include $500 cash (first), cocktails once a month (second), half a day at Cavana Ridge Spa (third), gourmet dinner for two delivered by CiaoChowCiao (fourth), cocktails once a quarter (fifth), Pixie Mood handbag (sixth) and cocktails for a year (grand prize).
