Rustica Pizza Vino is putting on its fifth annual pizza box decorating contest, giving starving artists young and old the chance to earn a free pizza and prize money.

Residents can drop in to the restaurant during operating hours to pick up a blank pizza box to use as a canvas for their artwork, and drop their work off at the restaurant by Feb. 7.

There are two categories for the contest – 12 and under and adult – said restaurant owner Jenna Clarke.

“The main prize for the adult category is $500 – they get $300 in cash, and then $200 to donate to whatever local charity they choose,” she said. “The kids' contest is a $50 prize, and $25 goes to the kid and then $25 to their choice of charity.”

Every person that hands in a decorated box can get a free pizza, Clarke said, with a regular size pizza available to adults and a kids pizza available to kids.

Hundreds of boxes have been handed in over the years, Clarke said, and staff will vote on the top submissions before posting finalists to social media for a final vote from the public.
