A local eye surgeon wants the community to have a good laugh for a good cause.
For the second time, Tim Hillson has arranged to bring The Second City to town for its Cure for the Common Comedy show.
Last year, the show raised almost $9,000, which allowed the Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital Foundation to purchase an ultrasound machine for the surgery department.
“The hospital has so many things on their wish list and it was a doable task,” Hillson said of the purchase.
The next item to be ticked off that list will depend on how much money is raised during the Oct. 18 show at the Orillia Opera House. The goal is to raise at least $10,000.
If last year’s performance was any indication, it will be another success.
“They’re pretty talented people,” he said of the travelling troupe. “People were rolling in the aisles. It was really funny, and I’m sure it will be again this year.”
Tickets sell quickly, so he encourages people get them soon. They cost $35 if purchased before Sept. 30, after which the price goes up to $40.
“It’s a nice night out,” Hillson said.
