Severe thunderstorm warning for Orillia, chance of 'toonie size' hail

Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Orillia. It says there is a threat of up to toonie size hail.

More details are in the following weather advisory issued just after 7 p.m.:

   Orillia - Lagoon City - Washago

Current details:
At 7:03 p.m. EDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing strong wind gusts, up to toonie size hail and heavy rain.

This line of severe thunderstorms is located from Stroud to Leaskdale, moving northeast at 65 km/h.

Hazard:
Up to toonie size hail possible.
Up to 90 km/h wind gusts.
Local rainfall amounts up to 50 mm possible.

Locations impacted include:
Innisfil, Beaverton, Georgina, Mara Provincial Park, Sutton, McRae Point Provincial Park, Sibbald Point Provincial Park, Lagoon City, Hawkestone, Baldwin, Georgina Island, Cedarbrae, Sunset Beach, Pefferlaw and Brock.

Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles.

Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!

Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.

Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
