Walker Aggregates’ Severn Quarry in the Township of Severn has received OSSGA’s 2020 Community Relations Award, presented at OSSGA’s 2021 Conference and AGM in February.

Community relations are a daily priority for the team at Severn Quarry. Beyond leveraging technology and industry best practices to reduce the impact of its operations, the Walker Aggregates site supports its neighbours in Severn Township and the surrounding region.

In 2020, the quarry made donations to multiple food banks to provide additional support during the COVID pandemic.

Severn Quarry also hosts several groups and events at its site. These include educational tours for Georgian College students and a holiday PLC wine and cheese reception and summer barbecue – both of which were impacted in 2020 by the COVID pandemic. Outside of these events, the team stays in touch with its neighbours through biannual newsletters and personal visits.

Community Relations Award

The Community Relations Award recognizes those who have demonstrated leadership in promoting good neighbour relations, community involvement, education and industry awareness.

OSSGA Industry Recognition Awards program

The OSSGA Industry Recognition Awards program recognizes a wide range of activities that contribute to a progressive image of our member aggregate producers and the aggregate industry as a whole. A key goal is to raise the bar in the industry by highlighting operations that go above and beyond what is required by legislation.

“We encourage each member to be sound stewards of the lands on which they operate, and to be engaged and valued members of their community,” said Norm Cheesman, Executive Director of OSSGA. “All of OSSGA’s 2020 award winners have met and exceeded those expectations.”

A full list of winners can be found in the 2020 OSSGA Industry Recognition and Student Design Award Booklet and at www.GravelFacts.ca!
