NEWS RELEASE
NORTH SIMCOE ARTS
*************************
North Simcoe Arts is excited to announce the creation of the Harry Mason Bursary, a new initiative aimed at supporting emerging artists in the North Simcoe region. The bursary, consisting of $5,000, will be awarded annually, offering $1,000 awards to five students pursuing post-secondary studies in any art discipline, including theatre, photography, and visual arts.

These funds were graciously donated by the family of Harry Mason to establish this fund. To know Harry, is to love Harry. He was a gentleman who was kind, caring and generous. You could find him reading, listening to classical music, and always willing to offer a helping hand to friends and family. Friends described him as authentic, a beautifully kind soul who was admired for his ability to effortlessly make people feel important. Harry and his heart live on through this fund.

This prestigious bursary will be available annually for the next 10 years, with the first round of applications opening in spring 2025. Eligible applicants must be residents of the North Simcoe region and plan to study art at a recognized post-secondary institution.

“The Harry Mason Bursary is a significant step forward in fostering creative talent across our North Simcoe region,” said Mike Bailey, chair of North Simcoe Arts. “This bursary honours the legacy of Harry Mason, a dedicated supporter of the arts in our community, and will provide much-needed financial assistance to a student as they pursue their artistic ambitions.”

Applications for the Harry Mason Bursary will be accepted starting Spring 2025 through the North Simcoe Arts website. Details on eligibility, application requirements, and submission guidelines will be posted in advance of the opening.

In addition to offering the bursary, North Simcoe Arts is also forming a Bursary Review Committee to help evaluate applications. The committee will consist of volunteers with a background in the arts and an interest in supporting the development of local talent. Interested individuals who would like to be part of the review committee are encouraged to reach out via email at [email protected].

“This bursary represents a unique opportunity for us to support our region’s next generation of artists,” said Bailey. “We invite everyone with a passion for the arts to consider applying and to explore the chance to contribute to the committee that will help make this opportunity a reality for a student.”
