NEWS RELEASE
SIMCOE NORTH PROVINCIAL LIBERAL ASSOCIATION
*************************
Liberal members from across the Simcoe North riding met on Sunday, Aug. 11 at the home of Lois and Fred Larsen to renew acquaintances and to elect an executive for 2024.
Matt Lund was re-elected as president, newcomer to Orillia Danny Borzellino was elected executive vice-president, Lois Larsen was re-elected as treasurer, and Fred Larsen took on the duties of the secretary for the association. In addition, directors Ryan Barber, Aaron Hiltz and Shannon Parry will, for now, round out the executive group.
Since the Ontario Liberal Party constitution allows for up to 10 directors on riding executives, Liberals in the area are reminded that, if they would like to join the local executive, they can contact president Matt Lund at [email protected] and the new executive can appoint them to the seven vacant director positions.
The Simcoe North Provincial Liberal Association needs more members in the executive group. Please consider joining. Make positive changes to our Ontario politics your cause.
In his comments to the annual general meeting (AGM), president Lund noted the strength of the Liberal candidates in 2023’s leadership election, won by former Mississauga mayor Bonnie Crombie. He also noted the possibility of an early election in the spring of 2025 as Premier Ford tries to hedge his bets by holding the provincial election before the federal election.
He noted, as well, that, given this possibility, local Liberals are urged to sign up for the provincial Liberal Future Fund at www.ontarioliberal.ca. Liberals and supporters can donate to the Ontario Liberal Party or, through the Liberal Future Fund portal, to the Simcoe North Provincial Liberal Association. Of course, you can also contribute to both, either with single donations or by signing up for monthly donations. A provincial tax credit is available for a portion of all political donations.
Following the conclusion of the AGM’s business, members renewed acquaintances and the conversations, naturally, went to the state of the province.
Frequent topics were “Ford’s billion dollar booze-doggle,” his penchant for rewarding his wealthy developer friends, his government’s lack of support for Ontario’s health community and hospitals (and the creeping privatization of our healthcare through the creation of more private clinics and the use of expensive private agencies for healthcare nurses and other staff). Some of those in attendance being in their ‘golden years,’ there was also strong criticism of the ongoing privatization of, and profit taking from, senior care in Ontario.
One other mystery was mentioned: How is it that Simcoe North’s MPP Jill Dunlop can represent the people of the riding without ever meeting with them and hearing what they have to say? But then it was decided that was a topic for the next election.
