Snowshoeing? In this weather?
Some might think there has not been enough snow this winter to warrant snowshoes on the local trails.
But that is not accurate. Just ask the members of the Orillia section of the Ganaraska Hiking Club who took to the Strachan and Oro Tracts of the Simcoe County Forest this week for their regular weekly jaunt. And snowshoes were needed.
The air was cold, but the hikers soon warmed up thanks to the presence of the sun, combined with the effort of the hike.
"There is still a fair bit of snow in the bush, and we found that the snowshoes, although not needed for the depth of snow, were very useful to carry us over and help smooth out the punched-out footprints in the snowshoe trails," said the local group's organizer, Carol Strickland.
The club welcomes interest and new members. Visit their website for further information.
